Firstmac Statement of Ethics
We aim to ensure that our business has a positive impact on the broader community, helping our customers to achieve financial security and a sense of place through home ownership.
We take a long-term view, measuring success by the strength of our relationships with business partners and customers, not through short-term financial metrics.
We are committed in our daily operations to the principles of environmental sustainability, equal employment opportunity, and giving back to the community.
As a residential and vehicle lender, our most important responsibility is to ensure that our product helps our customers and does not harm them. For this reason, we have adopted stringent credit policies which prevent customers from borrowing too much. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics, we consider each individual’s unique financial position, and we often counsel applicants to borrow less.
Fact: For every 1000 mortgages written by Firstmac over the last 10 years, only one has ended in default – less than half the rate of the major banks.
Firstmac seeks to minimise the impact of our business operations on the environment.
Firstmac offers home and car loans. We do not finance or invest in any industrial activities or projects. That means we have zero investments in mines, power generation, fossil fuels, or any other industries related to climate change.
Our High Livez RMBS fund invests only in bonds that fund Australian home loans, and some term deposits. It has no investments in mining or fossil-fuel-related industries.
We work hard to eliminate office waste wherever possible.
Fact: Firstmac has a true paperless office. By moving to a paperless office, Firstmac has saved more than 2 million sheets of paper per year, most of which came from native forests.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Firstmac provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type. We have policies and procedures in place to ensure that this is embedded in our business and is part of the culture we actively promote with all of our staff.
Fact: More than 40 per cent of Firstmac’s senior executive team are women.
Firstmac is committed to supporting civil society in the communities which have given us so much.
Fact: Firstmac is major supporter of the Steve Waugh Foundation, which supports children with rare diseases and their families. We are also a Premier Sponsor of our local sporting club the Brisbane Broncos.
